History

The Edmonton Accordion Society (formerly The Edmonton Accordion & Polka Festival Society) was formed following Edmonton’s first Polka Fest on the 1996 Thanksgiving weekend. Accordion players, teachers, and friends contacted one another and created the Edmonton Accordion & Polka Festival Society.

The Edmonton Accordion Society, with the financial help of the Edmonton Arts Council, the City of Edmonton and other valued sponsors, produces a yearly festival designed to promote awareness of the accordion. In 1999 the festival was renamed ACCORDION EXTRAVAGANZA!

The Society teaches and encourages performers, participates in cultural events, supports other accordion organizations and promotes international accordion contacts.

Club Activities

ACCORDION EXTRAVAGANZA! – (mid Sept.) A yearly accordion festival which draws accordion enthusiasts, players, dancers, competitors and exhibitors from Alberta, Saskatchewan, B.C. and the United States.
